Between 2000 and 2003, I periodically turned my kitchen into a felting studio to produce seamless felt mittens, which I began to custom make for friends. The pairs were eventually borrowed back for exhibition and both feltmaking and felt mittens became an integral part of my project "Sponge," 2006–2016.

Hope Ginsburg, entranced with the process of making felt, has created custom mittens for her friends and their kids. Through a collection of these synecdoches, she depicts an enclave of unique individuals creating a society.
