To be shown at N2NM: Exchange, December, 2012: Felting around a sea-sponge as a symbolic preservation of an over-harvested species, the oldest extant species on the planet. The project, which began as an event, Prototype for Preserving the Phylum Porifera, has already yielded cast substitutes of actual sponges, which have been produced in bronze, beeswax and urethane foam by student researchers of the Sponge HQ. An environmentally sensitive foam for future prototypes is under investigation.
